If you are a woman, if you’re a person of colour, if you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, if you are a person of size, if you are a person of intelligence, if you are a person of integrity, then you are considered a minority in this world.

…And it’s going to be really hard to find messages of self-love and support anywhere. Especially women’s and gay men’s culture. It’s all about how you have to look a certain way or else you’re worthless. You know when you look in the mirror and you think ‘oh, I’m so fat, I’m so old, I’m so ugly’, don’t you know, that’s not your authentic self? But that is billions upon billions of dollars of advertising, magazines, movies, billboards, all geared to make you feel shitty about yourself so that you will take your hard earned money and spend it at the mall on some turn-around creme that doesn’t turn around shit.

When you don’t have self-esteem you will hesitate before you do anything in your life. You will hesitate to go for the job you really wanna go for, you will hesitate to ask for a raise, you will hesitate to call yourself an American, you will hesitate to report a rape, you will hesitate to defend yourself when you are discriminated against because of your race, your sexuality, your size, your gender. You will hesitate to vote, you will hesitate to dream. For us to have self-esteem is truly an act of revolution and our revolution is long overdue.

TCGS #28 - Ruin This Show

Chris has to deal with the consequences after going on national television and announcing on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon that he wanted everyone to come to the next taping of TCGS and attempt to ruin the show. No touching the panel. No touching equipment. Everything else was fair game. What resulted was a cacophony of chaos as performers and audience members alike came out in droves to ruin the Chris Gethard Show. Chris’ only ally for the night was CollegeHumor’s Jeff Rubin who made his first appearance on the show and waded through the insanity with Chris. Aside from Jeff the only other rest from the chaos were the amazing and hilarious dance routines of the bad-ass Cocoon Central Dance Team. In the end, Chris asked the audience to ruin the show, and the audience delivered. Consider this show ruined.

omybosh:

I have made mistakes

I have fallen in and out of love…and back in again.

I have taken a road less travelled

I have followed

I have laughed

I have cried

I have risked

I have gone beyond my perceived limitations

I have regretted

I have triumphed

I have rejoiced

I have been proud

Everything I Ever Learned I Learned Through Improv…. (aka Improv as Life Lessons)

posted 1 month ago

<I wrote this a while back, but after seeing ASSSCAT tonight I wanted to repost it>

For my fellow UCB Classmates of Past & Present….

Listen!

Mistakes can give birth to miracles when supported instead of denied!

Making everyone around you look fabulous only makes you look more fabulous!

“Yes, but-” will never get you as far as “Yes, and-”

If you just “yes” and don’t “and-“ you will never move beyond just a safe place.

Always be the best at what you do- even when you have no fucking idea what’s going on!

Arguing is only avoiding defining something else!

If you’re asking a question- ANSWER IT!

HOW you do WHAT you do, is WHO you are!

You’re a total D-bag to start a conversation with: “Hey, you’re doing that wrong!”

Don’t take anything too personally!

Things are always more interesting with a Point of View!

Endow your scene partner!

Avoid talking about the past and future- play in the moment!

“Duck, Duck, Goose” isn’t fun without the ducks.

If you buy the ticket- ride the ride!

If you get trapped in your head- go back to your environment!

It’s important to learn the rules and then learn to break them intelligently!

Always go from line to line.

You are always responsible for some percent of the scene- so man up and be fucking responsible for your percent!

You should always be working towards creating something extraordinary!

“It” can be anything- as long as you make “it” SOMETHING!

You chose what your failures become!

Don’t get so caught up in the logistics that you forget to play the game!

I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be “happy.” I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate. It is, above all, to matter and to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all.
